Dr. Stefan Sobers attended the University of the West Indies Cave Hill. He did a Bachelor of Science degree with majors in both Chemistry and Biochemistry from 2001 to 2004 and graduated with Honours before going to University of the West Indies, St. Augustine Campus in Trinidad to pursue a medical degree.
Upon completion, with the Q.E.H. he began specialty training in Anaesthesia in 2010 culminating with the Doctorate of Medicine in Anaesthesia and Intensive Care degree in December 2015.
During his residency training he developed an interest in patient satisfaction with clinical services at the Q.E.H., specifically among obstetric patients. He worked as a Senior Registrar in the Department of Anaesthesia and Surgical Intensive Care at the QEH for two years before going to the United Kingdom to do a Fellowship in Critical Care at the Bradford Royal Infirmary in Yorkshire from 2017 to 2018.
After this, he completed another Fellowship, this time in Obstetric Anaesthesia at Addenbrookes Hospital in Cambridge in July 2019. During this time he continued to develop his interest in the management of obstetric patients with complex medical and surgical diseases and presented papers at the Obstetric Anaesthetists Association Annual Meeting in Newcastle in June 2019.
Since his return, Dr. Sobers has been working as a Consultant Anaesthetist for Anaesthetic Solutions Inc. while still providing public service for the care of obstetric patients at the QEH.
Dr. Demetria Lyew graduated from the University of the West Indies, Mona Campus, earning her Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery with honours in 2016. She later completed her Doctor of Medicine in Anaesthesia and Intensive Care in 2024. Her clinical expertise has been shaped by experience across the region, including the Princess Margaret Hospital in Nassau, Bahamas, as well as her formal specialist training at leading Jamaican institutions such as the University Hospital of the West Indies, Bustamante Hospital for Children, and Kingston Public Hospital.
Now based in Barbados, Dr. Lyew delivers a high standard of anaesthetic care across both hospital and out-of-hospital settings, including in-office sedation and sedation for dental procedures and MRI studies. She is committed to providing care that is safe, seamless, and tailored to each patient, with a focus on comfort, safety, and trust at every stage of the perioperative journey.
